Rockies Celebrate #2! Thornhill Baseball 2012 Champions (Sept 29)
The Thornhill Rockies entered the Championship Series on a roll winning their last two against the Yankees, in almost the same fashion as they did last year.
The Rockies put away the Yankees in a pivotal Game 3 finale where the Rockies took charge in the Bottom of the 6th inning and secured the rest of the game and a ticket to the finals.
In the finals, the Rockies scheduled Mike Simone to start Game 1 in what was a thriller. An early lead built up by the Rockies ended up changing sides a few times before the dust settled. Daniel Simone came into the game to keep the Rockies in the game, only to give up the lead in the Top of the 7th to extend the game.
The offense would do its job in the Bottom of the 8th inning, extending the Game and earning Daniel Simone the late pitching Win. Paolo Marcello scored on an attempted double play while rounding third base. He kept the green light on and headed for home, giving the Rockies a walk off win.
The next scheduled starter for Game 2 was Paolo Marcello and the team felt comfortable throwing out their Ace in a clinching situation.
In Game 2, the charge was led by different parts of the batting order. Paul Giralico stroked two consecutive doubles in his first two at bats to increase his power numbers on the season and put runners in scoring position immediately. He was aided by Paul DiGiandomenico who just the other night has lost a family member, playing with a deep heart and putting on an offensive performance to spark the team.
The Rockies started off with a cool 6 runs in the second inning and was easily the most run support given to P Paolo Marcello all season long in one inning. Aggressive base running and Daniel Sinaguglias hot bat got the Rockies team sparked up. The Blue Jays clawed back in the 4th and 5th innings trimming the lead down to only 1, but the Rockies had enough and ended up putting their foot down. They stepped on the neck of their opponents and tacked on 3 more runs in the Top of the 7th inning.
The Blue Jays ended up threatening the Rockies by loading the bases with NONE out, but the Rockies took 3 consecutive outs to win their 2nd Straight Thornhill Baseball Championship! With a record of 24-2-1 over the whole season, the Rockies taste baseball glory again.

Consecutive Wins Streak Ends, Multiple Injury Updates (June 20th)
Setting the Bar High, Consistency and Injury Report (May 16th)
The Rockies are all too familiar with starting out seasons well offensively. Since joining the league, the Rockies have been as any new expansion club, inexperienced and average. Since then, the team has made additions that have been producing. Records going back to as far as only 2010, although very recent, may perhaps show signs of consistency as their numbers of last year are very similar to the numbers of this year.
BA OBP SLUG OPS ERA WHIP OBA K:BB HITS RUNS FOR* RUNS AGAINST* RECORD
2011 .472 .571 .563 1.134 2.50 1.39 0.080 1.17 67 61 13 5-0
2012 .464 .563 .579 1.142 2.97 1.45 0.122 1.13 65 63 15 5-0
*through first 5 games
The numbers speak for themselves as great efforts from all aspects of the lineup and pitching rotation. In 2010 the team spotted a full roster with the exception of Daniel Masuccis absence during the regular season. However, as a team in 2012, they are able to keep up their production regardless of the amount of players played. In 2011, the Rockies had played 58 man games and this year the Rockies have only played 52 yet maintained their efficiency.
The injury bug still continues to bite and scare some players however, not much has changed since the start of the season. OF Dan Masucci has decided on surgery to repair his Torn ACL during off field activities in the off season and will miss the 2012 season. His scheduled date for surgery has yet to be determined but his recovery time and rehabilitation process will begin immediately after the surgery and should be ready to rejoin the team in the 2013 year. 3B/P Jon Maningas still continues to have problems in his rehab still favouring his right knee and has yet to begin off field baseball activity. He is currently in the rehabilitation process but will likely be ready to come off the 60 Day DL when he is eligible at the end of June.

2 Up, 2 Down: Rockies Win 2nd Straight
The Thornhill Rockies dawned their old 2011 uniforms for the last time en route
to their 2nd win of the season with a victory of 14 to 4 over the Pirates.
Standouts Paolo Marcello, Paul Giralico, Paul DiGiandomenico and Michael Simone
were key to the success of the Rockies in their win.
Paolo
Marcello came to the plate with 2 runners on board in both the first and third
inning and scored both runners, finishing the game with a total of 4 RBIs. Paolo
ended up contributing 3 hits and tallied an inning pitched to close out the
night.
Paul Giralico had a key hit in a big inning that
cashed in all the runners on base in a bases loaded situation by stroking a
double to deep left centre. Paul was a little unlucky with contact made
throughout the game but caught a ball and sent it right back into the gap to
cash in a big hit in a key situation. Paul had seemed to be extremely relieved
upon returning to the dugout.
Paul
DiGiandomenico was able to contribute to the team offensively and defensively.
On defense, Paul came into the game cold and managed to pitch just under 3
innings only allowed 1 earned run while walking the bases loaded. He managed to
fight his way out of the jam and limited the damage that was done. Offensively,
Paul collected 2 hits and 3 runs to add to the total of 14.
Michael Simone was able to come up with a good
start pitching just under 3 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. Mike had not
gone as deep as he would have liked to have gone but understands that it is very
early in the season and that there are many games to come. He also chipped in
with an opposite field double that brought in two runs that helped his cause for
the first W on the season.
The Rockies are
approaching a very busy weekend that consists of games on Friday, Sunday and
Monday that will feature pitchers Paolo Marcello, Paul DiGiandomenico, Daniel
Simone, Paul Bahous and Mark DiGiandomenico.

Players Ready, Injury Update and Roster Prospects
As the start of the season approaches, players are preparing for what will be an extended regular season compared to previous seasons. The league made a statement to the teams that new jerseys and more regular season games are going to be the two major changes for this season. This means that the Rockies will have a new look, new attitude, and greater opportunity to show what this team is capable of.
There is some growing concern that the team has yet to begin their spring training preparations but players will not lack confidence considering their accomplishments of a year ago. With the targets planted on their back, the team will need to gear up and prepare for a long season.
On an injury note, the Rockies have a new update involving multiple players. Blair Capel,, who took the offseason off for family time and healing appears to be healed from his previous injury and welcomes a new child at home. He appears to be in form and will be ready for opening day. Jon Maningas, who has suffered various injuries involving his Achilles, Foot and MCL, is seeing progress in his rehab and physiotherapy but does not appear to be ready for Opening Day. Daniel Massuci who suffered a Torn ACL/MCL and potential LCL, will be battling for the rest of the season. He is currently awaiting word from the specialist in regards to an operation, but will be missing the 2012 season.
As a result of missing 1.5 players to start the year, Coach Paul DiGiandomenico remains confident that the roster spots that are currently available will continue to remain open to allow better playing time for the team as well as allowing the guys to return to action when they are ready. Daniel Massuci will miss the seaon but Coach believes that the additional roster spot will go into developing the current talent on the team. The team was looking at potential roster fillers in Chris Ruberto or Stefan Panno but it appears the team has cut all negotiations.

Spring Training Camps Open Soon: Pitchers and Catchers Report (February 13th)
The Thornhill Rockies debut in spring training is very close and around the corner. Their expected date to report to camp is the first week of March, however, alot of the players have taken it upon themselves to begin and continue to get fit in the off-season. Daniel Simone, Jon Maningas, Paul Giralico and David Giralico all have been engaged in offseason workouts in hopes of reaching their peak during the Regular Season.
Players as always, appear to be anxious and excited to get on the field. None more than Jon Maningas, who met an unfortunate speed bump in his preparations. Jon suffered a Partially Torn Achilles tendon as well as Strained ligaments in his left foot. There is no timetable for his return as of yet, but he looks certain to miss the beginning of spring training and it is very possible that he will miss the opening of the regular season.
Other plays such as Daniel Simone, Paul Giralico and David Giralico have resumed their off season training and are on the right track in their preparation for the regular season.
Players sometimes feel the need to take a break from the game and engage in different activities. Paul and Mark DiGiandomenico continue to religiously play hockey in the off season and find it is the correct formula to help them stay focused during the regular season. One thing is for sure, and that the Rockies will begin their preparations in the very near future, knowing that they have the targets on their back. Knowing that they have other teams gunning for them this season, this years preparations will keep in mind the challenges that lay ahead of them.
