let the games begin! inactives list for game 1 (May 2nd, 2013)
Entering the regular season, the Rockies are generally healthy but will be missing players in specific roles to start off the year.
OF/1B Daniel Massuci will be missing the beginning of the season due to surgery on his repaired ACL this past off season. He is still currently rehabbing his injury and looking to return to the lineup as soon as July. The outfielder was up and on his feet in the off season but was unable to push it to game speed. He will watch from the sidelines to start the year.
OF David Giralico, one of the teams iron men, will be on the DL to start the year and will most likely be on it for the rest of the year. He too injured his ACL and meniscus and could potentially watch from the sidelines all year as well. After going through one operation this offseason, he is still scheduled to be operated on this coming December and will most likely not suit up to prevent further damage. The outfielder will be greatly missed as the Rockies defensive depth will be testing right away.
OF/P/3B Jon Maningas is nearing full health coming into the season after going through multiple injuries and missed time last season with the Rockies. He will suit up for the opener but is still aware of the dangers the field can expose.
The Rockies depth will be tested VERY early in the season as they open up Opening Weekend with 2 games in 3 days. Friday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 5th against the Orioles and Padres respectively. Look for coach Paul DiGiandomenico to get his team active and into the game to allow the rust to come off so that the team will hit their stride midseason and peak heading into the playoffs.
It is a long season, Good Luck to the 2013 Rockies!

ready or not, the regular season is here! (May 2nd, 2013)
The Rockies will begin their season on Friday, May 3rd at Concord Regioinal against The Orioles.
Eager to defend their championship, this should be a year of veterans sticking to their guns and adjusting to the league getting better. Teams have bulked up this year to knock off the 2012 Champs, but they will hold their ground steady.
The coach has yet to list the starter, but either way the Rockies are ready to start off the year on a good foot.

Slow Start to Spring, Potential Early Woes (March 27th)
As the seasons turn and teams begin their preparation for the upcoming season, the team has been off to a slower start compared to prior seasons. Their early preparation in throwing balls and swinging the bat in the last 2 years has led to the teams greatest success in years but the ball this year seems to be difficult to roll.
Possible repercussions? The team gets off to a slow start, players not getting into a groove.
Can the team recover? Of course. The talent on this years team is off the charts and the role players have returned again this year.
As the teams around the Rockies get better and improve their rosters, the Rockies should not settle. They should be aware of the consequences to a slow start of the year and understand that 2013 is not a year to relax, but a year to build and learn that the league around them is getting better and that the competition wants to knock off the Rockies this year.

Pre-Spring Training Workouts Begin (March 23rd)
As the 2013 season approaches, many players have taken the initiative to get their game into form before camps officially open.
Players Jon Maningas and Michael Simone have taken to the cages multiple times to get their swings into tune this year. Paolo Marcello, Mark Martino and Daniel Simone have also seen the practice field shaking the cobwebs off from a long winter.
Jon Maningas is not wasting a minute in his full return to the baseball field. Last year he missed 18 straight games after not missing a game in the previous 2 seasons. He has taken the off season seriously to return to his off season form.
He has also taken the initiative to convert OF Mark Martino into a legitimate contact hitting threat. Mark last season had a career worst year posting .140/.258/.140 and cannot get worse from there. He has a lot more focus this year and is highly motivated to perform this year.

Off-Season Transactions, Roster Moves and Edits (March 23rd)
This past off season provided many challenges for the team. Multiple players having to make tough decisions regarding their 2013 season has kept the off-season both entertaining and thrilling.
Despite previous reports, C/OF Blair Capel was undecided after their 2nd championship. He was contemplating a move to the Eastern Baseball Association but decided that he would lace it up for one more year under the Thornhill Rockies. "I believe this puts me in the best opportunity to win and that is where I want to be." Blair was a key role player late in the season as he only hit .267 in the regular season, but finished what seemed to be the end of his Rockies career by hitting .300 in the playoffs. Blair's stat line of .486/.612/.486 in 2011 was his best year with the Rockies and is committed this off-season to get back into form compared to his 2012 season (.267/.485/.311).
The news was not all good regarding Rockies camp as they have lost two players this year due to lingering injuries from the previous year. Pivotal outfielder David Giralico will be missing the 2013 season undergoing multiple knee operations to repair a torn meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament. He was originally scheduled to be on track to perhaps return but will have his procedure this December and will miss the remainder of the season not risking further injury.
In addition, Daniel Masucci, outfielder and first baseman is having similar issues dealing with a torn ACL from the previous season and will not be put on the PUP list to allow the Rockies to fill his empty roster spot. Daniel played in a few games last year but is still undergoing difficulty in his rehabilitation and will not risk further injury this year.
With that, the Rockies added veteran 1B Chris Ruberto who will bring contact and more power to the left handed side of the plate. Chris spent his last two seasons with the Cardinals before the roster spot opened up very recently. "I knew the guys and glad they called me. Im willing to fill the role that the team will ask me." Chris' veteran bat will hopefully plug a hole and leave an extra roster spot empty for other Rockies players to get more opportunities.
The Rockies are less than 7 weeks away from returning to the field in regular season form and will begin their spring training sessions as a team in almost 2 weeks.
